Homeschool History Fair

Well, we did it! All the hard work planning the fair and getting the kids to complete their projects on time is over!! I am the president of our homeschool group and planning the big fair each year is my 'baby'. This was our 4th one so far. We've done a geography fair, an art fair, a science fair and now a history fair. This was one of my favorites. The kids all worked very hard and did a wonderful job. Many of them even dressed up to bring their history project alive.

Some of the older boys...Zachary is in the center here...

Hannah did the 1970's....as if you couldn't tell by her outfit! Don't you just want to shout "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha"???

What's a homeschool get-together without a big spread of food?!?

All the parents judged this event. They were not allowed to vote for their own child (each of them had specific judging sheets which did not include their own children...so we covered our bases!! ha ha) One child from each age category won a 1st place trophy. Everyone got an award medal for participating in the event as well, so no one went home empty-handed.

Hannah and one of her best friends!

Zachary won 1st place for his age group...we were very proud of him! He worked hard on his project.

Here is Zachary with his display on the Battle of Midway. Ask him a question and he could answer just about anything about it....he really did his 'homework' on this one!!

Not only did Zachary win 1st place, but Sweet-Pea also took 1st place in her age group!! She also worked hard and again, we were very proud.

Hannaah standing beside her display. Note the homemade disco ball hanging from the top of her project. (You can see it just above the bright pink flower)

Next year we'll be doing a totally different fair and I am SO EXCITED about it. We'll be having a "Literature Fair." The kids will each have plenty of time to read and research before the big night since we'll be formally announcing it in September. I'm hoping to get a kid's author to come in and speak to them at the fair, so I too have lots of planning and work to do! Hopefully it will turn out just as fun and exciting as our History fair was.

I was looking forward to the fair, but honestly I'm glad it's over because of all the hard work it took to put together. I can look forward to graduation now, and then a bit of relaxation during the summer months before thinking about next year! Yahoo!!!
