I am amazed, honestly, how today's consumer cameras are nearly indistinguishable from yesterday's pro cameras. While you still need an SLR for a decent lens and sensor, the "consumer" models have excellent quality and are now mostly simply the same as the pro models with a few features turned off by software only.
Still, it is fun to have the more powerful software. :-)
